Hebrew is a unique language because it was once considered a “dead” language and was no longer spoken. It’s one of the few languages that has been successfully revived and is now spoken by over 9 million people worldwide. While most live in Israel, the United States is home to the second largest Hebrew-speaking population.

  • Thank you!

  • Have you used the Duolingo app to learn Hebrew? If so are you already an Arabic speaker, because I am a good linguist and speak and read 3 languages fluently and 4 more fairly fluently. The language teaching does not appear to be well-structured at the beginning. Written words are introduced with no sound and it’s a case of putting pin in a page to choose the right answer. It fails to provide an introduction to the alphabet with phonic sounds, before leaping into phrases like: “mum and dad like bread and milk.” I’m going to learn it but I’m using the forums to see if there is phonetic transliteration of the phrases so that I gradually learn the alphabet and to say something. Six days in, I’ll take the 7th as a rest! But I shall persevere and let you know how I get on with the app. Shalom

  • Thank you so much in advance
